As a 1st generation, bilingual, Haitian-American college graduate, I was raised in a very religious household and neighborhood that insulated me from the racism of “the outside world”. In my life, I’ve lived in 4 states, attended an HBCU (Historically Black College/University) for undergraduate studies then completed my Graduate studies in New York City. This exposed me to so many opportunities, culture shock, and the needs within the Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) Communities. This was very important in my roles as an educator in New York City for over 11 years to becoming a Guidance Counselor and now as an Assistant Principal (middle school level) in the Taunton Public Schools.
